Description

The 16th Annual RSPCA Million Paws Walk is being held across Australia on Sunday 16 May 2010 and is the big day out for animal lovers! Whether you have pets in your family or not, you're invited to join the pack and walk with tens of thousands of people and pets throughout Australia to help raise vital funds for the RSPCA and the animals in our care.

This year we're doggedly determined to break the million dollar and million paws barrier and we need your help!

Through our friends at Everyday Hero you or your team can easily setup an online fundraising page to approach friends, family and colleagues to ask for their support.

So slip on your walking shoes, grab your two or four legged friends and have a fun day out at Australia’s premiere pet event!

In 2009 more than 9,000 people and 3,500 dogs, five ferrets and an alpaca joined in.

WHEN: Sunday 16 May
WHERE: Stage 88, Commonwealth Park, Canberra
Walk starts at 11.00am
Join in the fun from 9.00am

This year's Million Paws Walk will again be hosted by popular breakfast radio personalities Cam and Lisa from Mix 106.3.
Cam and Lisa will kick off the day’s entertainment at 9.30am with the return of Pup Idol.

Lisa will venture out into Commonwealth Park and take in the sights and sounds of the day's festivities and visit many of the trade stalls on show.

At 10.50am Cam and Lisa will commence the countdown to the start of the walk at 11.00am.  This year's walk will travel in a clockwise direction, starting with the RG Menzies Walk, followed by The Kings Avenue Bridge, Reconciliation Place and then Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, before returning to Commonwealth Park.  The walk is about 5kms in distance and should take you between 45 minutes and one hour.

KennelsAfter the walk, Cam and Lisa will be joined by WIN TV’s news anchor, Jessica Good.

Jessica will feature the very popular Walk of Fame and Walk of Hope segments, where past and present dogs homed by RSPCA ACT are featured.

The Monster Screen will return as will Bouncer's Backyard and a host of other favourites.

The day's activities will conclude with the final of Pup Idol and a live auction of themed decorated dog kennels, based on motor vehicles.

In its fourth year at Stage 88, Commonwealth Park, the Canberra based Million Paws Walk continues to be one of the RSPCA's most popular outdoor events for animal lovers and their furry friends. At 11.00am on Sunday, 16 May 2010 the Canberra Million Paws Walk will deliver a picturesque walk around the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin.  Arrive early to register or take in pre walk activities.

This is Canberra's  premiere pet event where you and your friends can mingle, chat and celebrate your love of animals!
It is a family fun day designed to entertain, inform and educate the community about humane education and important animal welfare issues.

Funds raised through walk registrations and online fundraising will go towards vital programs, services and campaigns undertaken by RSPCA ACT, as well as supporting our daily battle to stop animal cruelty.

Eveyrone is welcome, you don't need to live in Canberra, or own a dog.  Many particpants come from Goulburn, Braidwood, Queanbeyan, Yass, Cooma and the south coast and other surrounding areas.  Just joining in will help our work.

Activities, attractions and live entertainment will be scheduled through out the day so you and your friends can enjoy a stress-free day out! These include:

  • Over 50 exhibitors will feature the latest pet products and services.
  • Food and beverage stalls.
  • Live entertainment.
  • Celebrity guests.
  • Agility canine courses and demonstrations.
  • Flyball.
  • Competitions and plenty of prizes.
  • Free vet checks.
  • Dog washing.
